Haworth - Central Park Play Area

The completion of this project has seen the delivery of a play area that is challenging, inspiring, exciting and innovative and a space that has enhanced the overall play experience for children.

The following objectives have been met within the design and delivery of the project:

• Creation of a play area for the local children of Haworth.

• Creation of a play area which is a visitor attraction for tourists.

• Creation of a play area that can be used by all including some equipment which is easily accessible by all children and is not dependant on age or ability.

• Creation of a play area that fits into the landscape which surrounds it by including materials which are natural and could be used for play or seating.

• Creation of a focal point within the park that creates a 'wow' factor and identify the play area.

• Creation of a play area that captures children's imagination and allows them to express themselves.

The final design had been chosen by local children through a process of consultation and voting for their preferred design from a number of options which includes the following equipment:

• Climbing frames in natural wood with slides.

• Aero Whirl

• Inclusive Orbit Roundabout

• Gravity Rider

• Swings including basket

• Pony Seesaw

• Basket/goal/Handball Net

The completed play area offers new and exciting equipment made out of natural wood which is bright and colourful due to the new surfacing, which in itself offers play opportunities like hopscotch and makes the area clean, level and safer. Items of the equipment are inclusive including wheelchair accessible roundabout and basket swing. The final design also offers an area for older children to take part in sports oriented play such as football, basketball and netball which is located alongside the play equipment to integrate the age groups.
